Concept Narrative and Meaning

48 Shots is conceived as a celebration of structure within play—where order, repetition, and variation come together to create a visually engaging system.

At its core, the installation draws from the familiar yet universally engaging world of cue sports. Each sphere represents a unit of identity—defined by its number, color, and pattern—yet designed to exist as part of a larger collective. The deliberate pairing of solids and stripes in identical color tones introduces a subtle discipline within the composition, reinforcing a sense of balance and cohesion.

The choice of 48 elements expands the idea beyond a literal game reference. It transforms the installation into a grid of possibilities—echoing strategy, sequencing, and calculated movement. Much like a game unfolds through precision and decision-making, the artwork reflects a structured randomness—where each element is distinct, yet contributes to a unified visual rhythm.

Materially, the use of FRP with a stone dust coating lends the spheres a tactile solidity—elevating them from playful objects to sculptural forms. The finish balances matte depth with refined detailing, allowing light to softly interact with the surfaces without overwhelming their color identity.

When viewed as a whole, the installation becomes more than a collection—it becomes an atmosphere. The repetition of form creates a sense of rhythm, while the variation in color injects energy into the space. It transforms the game room into a curated experience—where leisure meets design, and play meets precision.

Placed within the setting, 48 Shots acts as both a visual anchor and a conversation piece. It reflects the personality of the space—dynamic, engaging, and thoughtfully composed—while subtly reinforcing themes of competition, strategy, and enjoyment.

Ultimately, the piece captures a simple yet powerful idea: that even within systems of rules and structure, there is room for individuality, variation, and expression.
